摘要:Systematic research in snow hydrology has started in Slovakia about 40 years ago. We briefly present the basic knowledge of spatial and temporal distribution of snow water equivalent as it is known from field measurements in mountain catchments in north Slovakia and outline the current state of research in the field of snow hydrology in Slovakia. The experience and approaches are available to solve the practical as well as research tasks. The tools used to model the accumulation and melt of snow cover range from a simple degree-day model through an energy based model to a sophisticated spatially distributed rainfall-runoff catchments model. We are providing examples of application of different models in snow water equivalent and snowmelt runoff modeling and the assessment of climate change impact on the snow cover. In the nearest future, the problem of redistribution of snow by wind should be preferably addressed by the research.
