摘要：Sustainable development based on the integration and balancing of economic, social and environmental goals is an increasingly powerful concept, now one of the major pillars of overall development. In the Czech Republic, like in many other countries, the notion of sustainable development receives increased attention. The Charles University Environment Center has been appointed as an executing agency responsible for the management of the UNDP-funded project Towards Sustainability in the Czech Republic - Building National Capacities for Sustainable Development. The overall objective of the just finished project was to strengthen national capacities in the Czech Republic to analyze, understand, assess and implement principles and programs of sustainable development; both in the national and international context and to promote dialogue in this respect among various actors. A wide range of experts from various institutions has been involved in the project to cover numerous themes included in sustainable development. The project resulted in producing comprehensive analytical materials, which might serve for improvement of existing sectorial policies and a concise draft of national sustainable development strategy.
