摘要：Landscape ecology investigates spatial processes and pattrns in ecological systems, such as habitat fragmentation, landscape diversity and dynamics etc. Since most of the processes in landscape could be spatially expressed it is important to identify and monitor those processes and pattrns using the tools such Geographic information systems (GIS) and Remote sensing. Such tools provide unprecedented power which collect, store, manipulate and analyze data so as to support and assist the decisions which the environmental scientist, ecologist, zoologist and botanist make. This article provides an overview of operational GIS applications and their development in landscape ecological research at Institute of Landscape Ecology, SAS.
