摘要：Em The Solid Mandala (1966), o escritor australiano Patrick White tece uma narrativa que emprega uma configuração estética comum à representação da memória e da identidade em textos literários. Tendo como expoente essas duas temáticas, este artigo oferece uma leitura possível e breve do romance, explicitando a forma como as temáticas da memória e da identidade se desenvolvem uma em relação à outra, retroalimentando-se. Para isso, este artigo focaliza a figura dos protagonistas, os irmãos gêmeos Waldo e Arthur Brown. Conceitos-chave de autores como Bauman (2005), Erll & Nünning (2008), Candau (2011), Hall (2015), Neumann (2008), além de outros, são utilizados como referencial teórico. O texto de White prova que a rememoração e a configuração do “si” são duas peças do mesmo quebra-cabeça. In The Solid Mandala (1966), the Australian author Patrick White builds a narrative using an aesthetic configuration which is common to the representation of memory and identity in literary texts. Drawing on these two themes, this paper offers a possible and brief reading of the novel, exploring how the themes of memory and identity develop one in relation to the other, feeding each other. To perform the analysis, this paper focuses on the figure of the protagonists of the novel, the twin brothers Arthur and Waldo Brown. Key concepts from authors such as Bauman (2005), Erll & Nünning (2008), Candau (2011), Hall (2015), Neumann (2008), and others, are used as our theoretical background. White’s text proves that rememoration and the configuration of the self are two pieces of the same jigsaw.
