摘要：The main goal of the research in question was to study the suitability of panchromatic, archival aerial photos for the estimation of the dynamics and directions of changes in environment, based on the example of Puszcza Niepołomicka Primeval Forest which is situated about 30 km to the East from Krakow city centre. The research area is nearly 11000 hectares. The basic research material were B&W aerial photos taken in 1949 (scaled 1:15 000) and 1951 (scaled 1:25 000). The reference material were B&W orthophotos (pixel size 0.25 m) which were generated based on aerial photos made by PHARE 2001,scaled 1:13000. Additionally,the archival photos of 1965 and 1987 were used. The studies connected with external orientation of images and stereo digitalizing and orthorectification were made using soft copy station Dephos. Vectorisation of 2D orthoimages of 2004 and spatial analyses were made in ArcGIs 9.x (ESRI). The accuracy of geoposition (less than 3.0m for XY coordinates and less than 5 m for elevation Z) was good enough to make a premeditated analysis. Based on the studies,it can be stated that the archival aerial photos are a valuable source of information for the research into nature,due to the fact that they are available in an objective,visual form which gives each other the possibilities to focus on the past reality.
