摘要:In a longitudinal mixed-method study of close bereaved by the 22nd July 2011 terror attack on Utøya, Norway, we explored through in-depth interviews (N=41) how they had experienced the media reporting after the attack. The analyses show that the bereaved had experienced the media coverage through television, radio and newspapers as both negative and positive. Intensive and continuous reporting functioned as constant reminders of the loss, and triggered painful thoughts and feelings, invaded and disturbed the grieving process, and sometimes overridden them. However, they applauded the media for bringing out the truth, and stressed that the media had provided them with important information. Also, media reports helped their networks to remember the event so that they could provide support over time. Finally, we report the advice from the bereaved themselves to the media.
