摘要:Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is an important public health problem, being the second leading cause of death in Brazil. One of the manifestations of AMI is sudden cardiac death (SCD), which is of great medical and legal interest, since these deaths can be considered as suspicious ones, particularly when they reach individuals less than 40 years of age.Considering the importance of AMI in our country and its relationship with SCD, as well as the lack of national information involving necroscopic studies with this cause of death, this study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of AMI deaths at the Forensic Medical Institute of Belo Horizonte (FMI-BH), in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), 2006 to 2012.In the 213 reports of AMI studied, men predominated, aged 40 years or older, with brown skin, that lived alone and were occupationally inactive.Only 12 cases were younger than 40 years old and there were no cases under the age of 18 years. Most necropsies were performed on Tuesdays and in June, and most of the cases did not receive medical attention prior to death. In both males and females, the most frequent anatomical site of AMI was the left ventricle, and in 26,4% of the cases there was rupture of one of the cardiac chambers.Despite the limitations of the study, the epidemiological profile of AMI cases in the period 2006-2012 was evidenced, which may be useful in establishing possible prevention measures for its occurrence.
