摘要：External causes of death are unequally distributed among different populations.This study sought to verify if there is a difference in the deaths of external causes between doctors and lawyers, professions of the same socioeconomic group.A cross-sectional study of autopsy reports performed at IML-BH between 2006 and 2012 in physicians and lawyers was carried out.107 necropsy reports were retrieved, 39 of which in physicians (36%) and 68 in lawyers (64%).In both groups there were predominance of males and individuals that lived alone.Most were over 49 years old.The main circumstances of the deaths in the two groups were traffic accidents, suicide and homicide, in this order of prevalence.As there was no statistical significance (p> 0.5) in most of the data analyzed and the power of the study was less than 80%, it was not possible with the data evaluated to affirm differences between the two occupations.Although this study does not have enough power to demonstrate an association between the circumstance of death and the profession, its relevance is in the description of the epidemiological profile of these professionals in relation to deaths due to external causes.Their knowledge can guide preventive actions and assists in relation to this cause of mortality, contributing to public health measures.
