  • 摘要:Compression of the neck asphyxias represents one of the most complex and controversial topics in forensic science, as they involve a variety of injury mechanisms and the findings are often non-specific.Although there are different classifications, it can be considered that in strangulations the cervical constriction is produced by force diverse the victims own body, with or without a ligature.Choking techniques using the upper and lower limbs are an important component of most martial arts, such as judo or jiu-jitsu, as well as for various restraint procedures used by law enforcement and security forces. An elongated styloid process (EP) of the temporal bone may constitute a clinical condition known as Eagle Syndrome (ES), characterized by diverse symptoms, ranging pharyngeal foreign body sensation, headache, cervical pain, pharyngeal pain, temporomandibular pain, dysphagia, otalgia and even syncope and sudden death. As the elongation of the EP modifies the anatomical relationships of this structure with the larynx, pharynx and other cervical viscera as blood vessels, cervical constriction in this case can produce different manifestations those usually observed in strangulation, as observed in this case, which highlights the importance of their knowledge to the correct interpretation of the possible findings in this situation.
