  • 摘要:The purpose of language teaching enables the individuals to communicate properly with the people around them by improving the four fundamental language skills that they have. In order to maintain the communication processes smoothly and adapt themselves to the society, the individuals learning Turkish are required to be equipped with a rich vocabulary in addition to the improvement of these four fundamental language skills. The improvement of the vocabulary of the individuals in regard to the language that they learn enables them both to utilize the language actively and accurately and to enhance their thinking skills. The primary sources for teaching Turkish to foreigners are textbooks. The activities of vocabulary and their qualities in these textbooks have an important impact on the development of the vocabulary of the students. In this study, text and course books prepared by two different publishers at a level for basic language users were examined by means of the document analysis, and the activities of independent vocabulary teaching were evaluated in terms of the quantitative aspects and the variety of the activates included. In conclusion, the number of and percentage of the activities of independent vocabulary teaching in these two books were observed to be similar (Turkish for Foreigners by Yeni Hitit: 12%, İstanbul Turkish for Foreigners by İstanbul: 16%). The number of the different activities was found to be 11 in Turkish Books for Foreigners by Yeni Hitit, and to be 14 in Turkish Books for Foreigners by İstanbul. The finding indicates that the focus was on certain types of activities since a total of 10 activities in both of the books by these two different publishing houses are of similar nature.
