摘要:The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of metaphorical paraphrasing in comprehension of science texts. The study was carried out on the basis of a quasi-experimental design with a posttest control group,and also relational model. The participants of the research are 57 students attending to a school in Antalya. All participants are in the seventh grade. The instrument was a science text on fluid balance of body,which is supported by metaphorical paraphrases. 12 open-ended questions were prepared for the points supported by metaphorical paraphrases. The suitability of paraphrases and questions was consulted to expert opinion. Experimental group and control group of the study were equal in comprehension. The text including metaphorical paraphrases was given to the experimental group,and the text without metaphorical paraphrases was given to control group. After reading the text,groups were asked to answer 12 open-ended questions prepared for the points that the metaphorical paraphrases focused on. Content analysis of the answers was carried on by two evaluators. The results were coded as correct (1) and incorrect (0). t-test was applied to the data. The result indicated that metaphorical paraphrasing had a positive effect on comprehension of science text. In the light of the result,writers and teachers are suggested using metaphorical paraphrases to facilitate students’ comprehending of science texts..
