摘要:The study examined the concept of professionalism and its relationship to employee resourcing with special emphasis on the effect of application of knowledge, skills and attitudes to staffing within the organization. The population consisted of Nigeria public servants. Both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection were adopted;four hundred and seventy six (476) useable questionnaires were retrieved from respondents and used in the quantitative analysis, while three different groups consisting of between eight to twelve people were involved in focus group discussions. The authors found among others that the Nigerian public service is made up of an aged workforce.Following this,it is recommended that the public service should present better employment incentives to attract young and talented workforce. It is also suggested that the corporate autonomy of HR departments must be respected;employee resourcing should be handled without interference. While a lack of professionalism within the Nigerian public service is noted in this study, the authors hasten to assert that this is partly as a result of the learning environment in Nigeria which is considered unsuitable and ill-equipped for quality learning.
