摘要：Analysis of the characteristics of test items was carried out to produce test items that were of high quality (standardized). Analysis of the characteristics of test items could be done using the classical approach as well as the modern approach (Item Response Theory). This study aimed to describe the characteristics of basic social statistics test items developed by the Universitas Terbuka using the item response theory approach. This study was an explorative descriptive by using a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out through documentation of 269 test items of Basic Social Statistics and responses of 82966 students of Universitas Terbuka who took the test. Analysis of the characteristics of test items was carried out through steps:organizational data, assumption test,model fit test,items parameter estimate. Parameter estimation was done using Bilog MG software. The results of model fit test show that test was suitable estimated using 3 Parameters Logistics model (3 PL). The items parameter estimation results show that from 269 items only 81 items which has good quality and difficulty index (b) average was 2.149 with standard deviation was 2.451;discriminant index (a) avergage was 0.852 with standard deviation was 0.491;and pseudo-guessing (c) average was 0.288 with standard deviation was 0.093.
