Despite the prevailing peace between the kingdoms of Castile and England throughout the first half of the fifteenth century, there was an ongoing diplomatic confrontation between the two kingdoms. The debate centred on which of the two nations should take precedence in international meetings. It was therefore a matter of honour in which the authority and legitimacy of each state was at stake in the European context. In this paper we will analyze how and when these conflicts took place, their development and their actors, and the conclusions that can be obtained from the analysis on the way Castilian diplomacy functioned.
