标题：In Search of a more Effective Strategy: Using 5E Instructional Model to Teach Civic Education in Senior Secondary Schools in Ilorin, Nigeria

摘要：The socio-political and economic structure of Nigeria is being threatened by youth incivility, while civic virtues in all spheres of life are declining gradually. This study examined the effects of the 5E instructional model on the performance of students in Civic Education. Two research questions were raised with corresponding hypotheses. Two intact classes in two different schools were selected for this study from the available secondary schools. 77 students participated in the study in which the experimental group consisted of 39 students while the control group had 38 students. A 50-item multiple-choice objective test titled Civic Education Performance Test (CEPT) was used for collecting data. The validated CEPT was tested for reliability, and a value of 0.68 was obtained. Analysis of Covariance was employed in determining the significant difference between the two groups. The results indicated that there was the statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest mean scores of students taught Civic Education using 5E instructional model. Thus, the study recommended that Teachers should expose students to 5E instructional model in the classroom to develop students’ generic skills.
