摘要：Artigo resultante de conferência proferida no âmbito de concurso público, realizado em maio de 2012, para o cargo de professor titular do Instituto de Ciência da Informação da Universidade Federal da Bahia (ICIUFBA). Apresenta conceitos fundamentais relativos à temática do patrimônio documental fotográfico, audiovisual e sonoro, com ênfase para os conceitos de salvaguarda, conservação preventiva, preservação, acesso, gerenciamento de riscos, patrimônio cultural, com destaque para os acervos audiovisuais. Reúne elementos básicos históricos, políticos e legais, e tece considerações sobre conscientização e ações correlatas aos acervos audiovisuais, bem como sobre desafios das políticas públicas. Apresenta alternativas e propostas de ação para a continuidade da pesquisa sobre o tema. Palavras-chave Salvaguarda de patrimônio documental. Documento fotográfico. Documento audiovisual. Bases, challenges and alternatives for the safeguard and dissemination of the documental, photographic, audiovisual and sound patrimony Abstract This paper is based on a lecture delivered at a symposium held in May of 2012 for the post of Information Science Professor at the Institute of Federal University of Bahia (ICI-UFBA).The fundamental Concepts are presented with reference to the theme of documental, photographic, audiovisual and sound patrimony, emphasizing the concepts of safeguard, preventive conservation, access, management of risks, cultural patrimony, especially audiovisual collection. The basic, historical, political and legal elements are set up. Awareness and actions related to audiovisual collection are also taken into consideration, as well as the challenges of public policies. As a conclusion, alternatives and proposals for actions are presented for continuing research about this theme. Keywords Safeguarding documentary heritage. Photographic collections.
