摘要:Environmental problems are usually interpreted associo-ecological phenomena that must be takenseriously. However, various humorous aspects canbe found from many environmental issues. For instance,humor can be intentionally used to ridiculeopponents’ arguments in environmental disputesor humor can be used to forestall environmentalinitiatives that are feared to cause economic losses.Humor can also be a tool that helps to findnew approaches, create innovations and aid conflictmanagement. On a personal level, humor canhelp to cope with anxiety created by the increasingawareness about environmental degradation. Thisarticle gives an overview of the different traditionsof humor research from the perspective of environmentalproblems. The examples, aimed to illustratethe many facets of humor, are drawn from the Finnishenvironmental debates, concentrating especiallyon the debates on climate change and biodiversity.Conclusions are made in order to identify promisingdirections for future research.
