摘要:Objective To introduce the social aspects of medication using an elective course. Methods The study was conducted during the academic years 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019. The activity consists of 15 hours of lectures, 12 hours of seminars, and 2 tutorials. The following grading criteria were used for the final evaluation: attendance at theory classes (1 point), tutorials (1 point), and demonstrative presentations (1 point); oral presentation (3.5 points) and a term paper (3.5 points). A questionnaire was used to assess student satisfaction. Results There were 60 ± 7.1 students per course, distributed into 16.2 ± 2.2 groups. The theory program included interactions with the main users of medicines (pharmaceutical industries, regulatory agencies, patients, and doctors). The topics of the seminars, chosen by the students, are grouped into 4 thematic blocks: a) inequality in access to medicine, b) administrative and social pre-conditions in medicine use, c) social repercussions of medicine use, and d) ethics and fraud in relation to medicines. The final mean marks were: 7.9 ± 0.15, 7.4 ± 0.2, and 7.8 ± 0.1, in the 3 academic years. Students awarded 4 or more points out of 5 for the organisational aspects, the theory program, and the seminars. Conclusion The social aspects of medications were well received by the students and contribute to the acquisition of cross-sectional skills.
