摘要：アーカイブスとは，ある個人や団体が，ある一連の活動，事業や事件の過程で作成，または受理し集積してきた資料で，継続的な価値が認められ保存されてきたものをいう。アメリカアーキビスト協会は1977年以来3回にわたり，大学院レベルのアーカイブス教育についてガイドラインを出し，アーキビストの教育水準向上に努めた。カナダではブリティッシュコロンビア大学大学院にアーカイブス専門学科が設けられた。歴史学重視か，資料整理の方法論重視か，という教育内容の議論に加え，近年では情報科学技術の教育が不可欠とされている。アーカイブス学の確立を目指して，アメリカでは初のアーカイブス学修士号を授与する大学院プログラム設立への努力が続いている。
其他摘要：Archives are documents made or received and accumulated by a person or organization in the course of the conduct of affairs and preserved because of their continuing value. Society of American Archivists has approved the guidelines for the graduate archival education for three times in recent 20 years in order to build a firm basement of the archival occupation. University of British Columbia in Canada started the first Master of Archival Studies （MAS） Program in North America. There are several controversies over the proper background for the archival profession and the emergence of information technology in recent years had a great influence on archivists. For the next decade, the development of MAS programs will be the final goal for the archival society in the United States.
