摘要:Moreno Serrano, Fernando Angel. La Ideologia de Star Wars [The Star Wars Ideology]. Madrid: Guillermo Escolar, 2017. 353 pp. Paperback. ISBN 978-84-17134-24-2. 21.90 [euro]. Many books have been written about Star Wars, from a multitude of points of view. However, Fernando Angel Moreno's manuscript is a novelty for reasons that are not critically fashionable anymore. Above all else, he avoids looking at the saga from a single point of view, from a single ideology. On the contrary, it gathers a wide range of points of view to draw conclusions as a whole. The study of the saga, therefore, is configured around what the author calls "pop ideology," based on the fact that the films develop their own syncretism in which all these ideologies can be found, without any of the films impinging on the others. In this sense, the book responds to the old structuralist slogan: "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts." Another novelty is found in the seriousness with which each subject has been handled. Faced with the culture of intuition and undocumented opinion surrounding Star Wars, Moreno has used sophisticated sources on each topic, such as Pannikar or Grau for Buddhism, Hannah Arendt for totalitarianism, Boeri and Salles for Stoicism, Carl Schmidt for the concept of State, or Sara Ahmed for the analysis of emotions, to name some of the most significant. Without being an exhaustive study on each topic, the reader nonetheless gains an understanding of the discourse from the theorists under discussion in each section, and which are used for the understanding of what we see in theaters or in the comfort of our own homes. As if that were not enough, the book collects numerous testimonies of directors, screenwriters, actors, art directors, and other creators who have contributed to Star Wars.
