摘要:Mosaics of Protected Areas (MAP) are a strategy that advocates for the integrated and participatory management of protected areas. In Brazil, they are foreseen in Law 9.985 of July 18, 2000, which established the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC). This article presents results of a research that aimed to review and discuss the Mosaics of Protected Areas from the analytical category "territory", based mainly on its socio-political meaning, using as object of study the Carioca Mosaic (MC). This mosaic has the peculiarity of being inserted in an urban environment, located in Rio de Janeiro, a city that has undergone changes in its configuration generated from different interests that rarely contemplate environmental conservation. Through a qualitative approach, the following research methods were applied: literature review, secondary data analysis, and individual semi-structured interviews. From the concept of territory, the scalar approach and the reflections that permeate the debate regarding integrated management of protected areas, are highlighted the potentialities and challenges of the Mosaics, particularly of the MC. Moreover, this study also identifies divergences between the views of the public sphere and of the civil society in relation to the management of the territory, as well as the expectations of spatial transformation of the actors with greater power of influence, who are, in the case of Rio de Janeiro, allied to the political interests in confluence with the established city model.
