摘要:Since the year 2008, I have been doing fieldwork in a security force: the ArgentinaFederal Police. My research addresses the usage and meanings that circulate withinthis institution about the use of force and, particularly, weapons. Given the characteristics of my object of study, and particularly because of the issue that I decided to tackle, I knew that developing this research would not be a simple task. Those who preceded me in the study of such institutions had already noted the many difficulties encountered. However, the creation of the National Ministry of Security, in December 2010, determined that those researchers from the social sciences interested in studying the functioning of the security forces in our country now have an opportunity to access them in a different way. The focus of this paper is methodological and epistemological. I will attempt to reflect on my own field of research, the study of police in the social sciences, in the context we experience today. I am interested in considering the difficulties that arise in relation to the object of study, firstly, because of the superposition of the two roles that bind me to the PFA: the researcher and the teacher. In addition, because the police are commonly seen by academics as an essentially corrupt and repressive institution, I consider it important to analyze the bias that affects our research, a product of these prejudices regarding the object of study. My role as a teacher contributed to the suspension of the beliefs and perspectives that interfered with the observation and interpretation of this institution.
