摘要：Payments for Environmental Services (PES) these are incentives, financial or otherwise, for the conservation and maintenance of ecosystem services. PES initiatives have as a principle a voluntary transition in which an ecosystem service such as water production or avoided deforestation is "purchased" by a provider of this service conditional upon maintaining commitment in offering this service. Three Brazilian cases of PES are presented in this text: water resources, avoided deforestation and to minimize the conflicts between landowners and large carnivores. These three case studies show that heterogeneity is characteristic in relation to the PSA due to some peculiarities: Diversity of environmental services, variety of institutional arrangements involved in these projects and funding sources. The overall conclusion is that, despite the challenges and problems faced, there is great potential of PES as mechanisms for income generation and environmental conservation stimuli.
