摘要：Este artigo se propõe a uma abordagem sobre a cidade e o urbano na Amazônia, especialmente, mas não somente enfatizando o significado de ambos no processo de produção do espaço na parte ocidental dessa região. Para tal, utiliza-se de recortes temporais no sentido de melhor compreender o desenrolar do processo do desenvolvimento da cidade e do urbano, enquanto fator acumulativo de tempos sobrepostos no espaço, resultando sempre numa nova maneira de apreender a realidade socioespacial e temporal do significado que esses dois termos ganham nos vários contextos sociais, políticos, econômicos e espaciais em que a Amazônia esteve inserida até o presente momento, ou seja, início do século 21.
