摘要:Maintaining the Quality of Service for real-time communications (VoIP, Video streaming) is a majorchallenge in IP-based networks which offer best-effort services to its underlying applications. However, irregularities inthe packet switched network coupled with different levels of congestion result in jitter which is caused by variation indelay. Recent advancement of technology has introduced the Play-out buffer in such applications to compensate thisjitter. The challenging aspect is to optimally configure the size of the play-out buffer, as this is crucial in order tocontrol both queuing delay and packet loss due to the buffer overflow. Considering practical design andimplementation of the play-out buffer as a critical problem for deploying VoIP in emerging networks, this paper hasdeveloped a test-bed prototype of voice communication system over IP-based networks.
