摘要：Short Message Services (SMS) is the most popular, easy and cheapest means of textual communication,but due to tremendous growth of media and communication technology, now it is a real challenge to widely share/sendinformation through the insecure network/media ensuring that, the receiver will get the authentic information.Nowadays, short message service (SMS) is being used in many daily life applications such as healthcare monitoring,mobile banking, mobile commerce, and so on. We may send confidential information like passwords, account numbers,license numbers etc through SMS. This important information in SMS may be hacked by the hackers if we do notprovide any security mechanism to the SMS content. Security is very much essential in case of transmitting theinformation through the network and this can be achieved by using cryptography, encoding and decoding mechanisms.In this paper various approaches to provide security to SMS is discussed.
