摘要:Prosopisjuliflorais one of the most economically and ecologically important tree species in the arid andsemi-arid zones of the world. Prosopis species are Xerophilous, aculeate, spiny and rarely unarmed. The present studyevaluates the potential anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm activity of Prosopisjuliflora. The ethanolic extracts were preparedfor the present study and anti-bacterial activity was determined by Disc Diffusion method andAnti-biofilm activity wasevaluated by Microtitre plate method. Thepresent study (anti-bacterial) reported that the ethanolic extracts in variousconcentrations were effective against all the strains tested. The results showed that the extracts had the strongestinhibition effect against S.aureus and it was maximum for staphylococcus sp. The extracts also inhibittheE.coliandP.aeruginosabiofilm structure. Minimum inhibitoryconcentrations (MICs) were calculated by broth microdilution method in Microtitre plates and studied their minimum inhibitory concentrations. The anti-biofilm activity wasalso measured and 50% of the biofilm reduced. The minimum inhibitory concentration of ethanolic extractions ofP.juliflora was 30μg/ml. Hence, the present work concluded that the plant extract was able to control the pathogenicorganism and biofilm formation.
