摘要:Today‘s adult educators are expected to obtain appropriate qualifications and permanently continue their education so they are able to act in a professional manner. Is individual professional development at all possible and meaningful without turning the screws of collective, structural professionalization? Isn‘t it rather that precarious working conditions radically limit any effort to ensure quality? This edition of The Austrian Open Access Journal on Adult Education (Meb) attempts to address this blind spot in the professionalization discourse and investigates the realities of the work and life of adult educators, structural deficits and the place where adult educators rediscover themselves in the professionalization discourse. The individual articles provide a glimpse into the work of educators who teach basic skills to adults, AMS trainers, language instructors and ProfilPass counsellors, reflecting on self-organized learning spaces, the advantages of cooperative professional development and a completely alternative understanding of their profession, thereby allowing people and groups of politically active adult educators to speak. In addition, empirical data on the "continuing education workplace" is collected and interpreted and job development processes are measured against the reality of employment. One thing is common to all the contributions: they want to encourage people to do something, to improve something. (Ed.)
