摘要:Tachyplesin is an antimicrobial peptide recently found in the acid extract of hemocytes from the Japanese horseshoe crab, Tachypleus tridentatus . It consists of 17 amino acid residues and has a mass value of 2300. In previous studies, Tachyplesin was noted to inhibit the growth of gram-negative and-positive bacteria, viruses, and candida. The resuls of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of Tachyplesin against tetrahymena in protozoa. Tetrahymena treated with 25μg/ml of Tachyplesin showed partial disintegration and morphological changes in the cells. The surviving cells following treatment at the above concentrations for 60min were about 29%. However, at 50μg/ml of Tachyplesin, all cells died. When tetrahymena was treated at less than 25μg/ml for 60min and transfered to a new broth, the surviving cells regained the ability to divide and grow actively.
