  • 摘要:Oral glucose tolerance tests (50g) were performed on 137 farmers and 87 non-farmers aged 40-59 years in a rural area of Hyogo prefecture. Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT, one hour plasma glucose≥80mg/dl) was more prevalent in farmers than in non-farmers. In each group, the subjects with IGT showed higher blood pressure than those without IGT. In non-farmers, subjects with IGT had higher nutritional parameters (obesity index, serum total cholesterol, serum total protein, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte count) than those without IGT. Farmers with and without IGT showed essentially the same nutritional parameters, but serum triglyceride and urinary sodium were higher in subjects with IGT than in those without IGT. There would thus appear to be differences in risk factors for IGT between farmers and non-farmers. In non-farmers, obesity may be a risk factor for IGT due to eating western food, whereas in farmers, large intake of carbohydrates and salt may be a risk factor for IGT. In farmers and non-farmers, intraindividual alteration in glucose tolerance (one hour plasma glucose level) during a two-year period was positively related to that in serum total protein and hematocrit, both known to be determinants of blood viscosity. The values of hematocrit and serum protein may be valid parameters for the prognosis of glucose intolerance in mass medical examinations for the prevention of diabetes mellitus.
