标题:Size fractionation of the bacterial population in river waters and the analysis of the mechanism of the change in the structure of the bacterial community using continuous culture systems
摘要:The heterotrophic bacterial population in the waters of the Yodo and Neya rivers was size fractionated with Nuclepore filters and Plankton nets having pore diameters ranging from 1μm<, 1-5μm, 5-30μm, 30μm >. Almost all of the bacteria in river waters existed in the size range of 1μm< and 1-5μm fractions. The growth responses of the bacteria, isolated in the size range of <1μm fraction in the waters of the Yodo river, to organic nutrients were considerably different from those of the bacteria in the same fraction of the waters of the Neya river. Most of the bacteria in the size range of <1μm fraction in the waters of the Yodo river were able to be grown only on a medium with a low concentration of the organic nutrients, whereas the bacteria in the same fraction in the Neya river grew well on a medium with a high concentration of the organic nutrients. These results indicated that the bacteria in the size range of <1μm and 1-5μm fractions greatly contributed to self-purification of river waters. It was also considered, with the experiments of the continuous culture systems fed with three concentrations (0, 10, 100ppm) of polypeptone, the mechanism of the change in the structure of bacterial communities caused by organic pollution.
