摘要：The present paper addresses functional capacity as a reasonable proxy for health in the elderly. The conceptual framework and its relation to quality of life and productivity are stated. Distributions of functional capacity according to a scale from low to high levels of functioning are shown. Cross-cultural differences, regional differences, and predictors of functional capacity and active life expectancy are also described. J Epidemiol , 1996; 6: S71-S78.
