摘要:In container seedling nurseries, copper coating that promotesroot pruning and varying container volumes are often used tomanipulate seedling size in an effort to optimize outplantingsuccess. Western white pine seedlings were grown with orwithout copper root pruning in two container sizes. Seedlingheight and root-collar diameter were significantly different atoutplanting and after six growing seasons. Seedlings grown inlarger containers (130 ml [8 in3]) outperformed their smaller(80 ml [5 in3]) counterparts, and copper root pruning resultedin approximately 10 percent more height and root-collardiametergrowth. With relatively few studies investigatingthe longer-term performance of western white pine seedlingsof different stocktypes, these results should aid in identifyingappropriate seedlings for meeting outplanting objectives.
