摘要：In analyzing characters in a novel, psychological approach is related to human behavior, attitude and also the mind of the character. A psychological factor is the main cause of the character personality; this factor can be anything such as one comes from the broken family, betrayal, lost something or someone who she / he loves, trauma in her childhood which can cause depression in her life. Most people with depression can be helped with treatment, but many depressed people never get the help they need. The problems identified in this research were: What the psychological factors that influence the main character in the Danielle Steel novel Accident? What are the relationship between individual attitude and environment (social life) with the psychological condition of the main character? The objectives of the study were: to describe the psychological factors that influence the main character in Danielle Steel novel, and to describe the relationship between individual attitude and environment (social life) with the psychological condition of the main character. This research uses qualitative method, which describes the data. It will help the readers to understand psychological factors that influence the main character in the novel. Data are taken from library research at Gunadarma University library, National library, UI library and field research to complete the accomplishment of the scientific research paper. In library research, the writer used some books which were related to the topic to help the writer in finding theories about the psychological factors. The writer also browsed theories from internet to add theories beside from the books. By using a psychological approach, the writer expected to get to know the personality of a character that wants to be analyzed. But before we analyzed the personality of a character, the writer must know the background of main character that influences her personality with the whole of novel. After analyzing the data, the writer concludes the psychological factors that influencethe main character in Accident are depression, hopelessness, anxiety, anger, fear, loneliness, regret, frustration, and hatred which cause effect from individual and environment relationship; losses in motion a prolonged and exaggerated grief reaction.
