  • 摘要:Ibis paper prcsents the results on recent studies on the potential impact of sea level rise along the Caribbean coas! of Colombia, bases foc the first official Colombian report fo! the International Conventioo on Climate Change in conjunction 'With the Colombian weather bureau, IDEAM. Based on detailed srudy of landforms, associatcd processes aud recent coastal evolution, the tlucar of eoastal flooding and erosion are evaluated with respect to the projected sea level rise of one meter by the year 2100 as estimated by IPCC. Coastal landform analysis, supportcd by satellite and aerial photo-interpretation, sccondary informatian and field observations, produced a total of 15 geomorphic units DE structural, fluvial and marine origino Of special significance are the numerous marine terraces and exposed corral recfs, indicative a previous 2 meter high sea level during the upper Holoccne and potentially susceptible to future erosion and flooding. Based on this gcomorphic model as well as erosional and topographical eriteria, fmure flooding and erosion are estimatcd along the total lcngth of the Colombian Caribbean coast indude majar urban areas such as Cartagena) Santa Marta) Puerto Colombia and Turbo. Along the 1.819 km Caribbean eoast line) 33.7% is estimated to be highly susceptible to coastal erosion, while 31.2% and 35.1% presents moderate to low suseeptibility respectively. Coastal flooding is estimated to affeet severely 1.192 Km2 and a total of 2.331 Km2 will suffer local flooding while approximately 2)336 Km2 will be affeeted by pounding. In addiction to major urban areas) coastal erosion or flooding will potentially affect significant areas of agricultural land and strategie coastal ecologieal systems sueh as deltas, mangroves and lagoons.
