  • 摘要:One of the sectors that has been able to survive during the eonomic crisis is the small sized industry of tapioka. This industry has been able to do so because of the availability of the raw materials and production facilities such as : tapioka mill, a place for drying and washing and the experienced individuals who have been in the business for decades. The purposes of this study are as follows : (1) to know the general view of the tapioka processing industry in Sukaraja, Bogor and the impact of small-sized industry for the welfare of the business owner, (2) to gain knowledge on the value added given by the tapioka industry, the contribution of the said value added to the improvement of the financial condition of the business owner and the way it is allocated, (3) to examine the prospect of developing tapioka industry from the input side and market opportunity. The methodology used in this study is a case study with descriptive analysis. Data are being analysed and administered using Microsoft Excel application then presented in tables. The analyses are separated in to profitability analysis, value added analysis and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threat (SWOT) analysis. From the study it can be concluded tha the average business owners produce 100 kg of raw tapioka which then will produce 20 kg tapioka and 6 kg waste. The revenue obtained from selling the tapioka and the waste in high, medium and low scale respectively are as follows : Rp. 456.000.000 and Rp. 40.000.000 per year, Rp. 239.400.000 and Rp. 20.000.000 per year, Rp. 30.096.000 and Rp. 2.400.000 per year. Total revenue and total cost for high, medium and low scale respectively are as follows : Rp. 400.234.103,90 and Rp. 95.765.896,10 per year; Rp. 203.347,52 and Rp. 30.504.629,87 and Rp. 1.991.370,13 per year. R/C ratio for total cost in high, medium and low scale respectively are 1,24; 1,28 and 1,07. Value added for the high, medium and low scale respectively are Rp. 124,39 per kg, Rp. 131,04 per kg, Rp. 106,15 per kg. Break even value in selling for the high, medium and low scale respectively are Rp. 140.804.547,97, Rp. 53.371.589,59 and Rp. 32.476.984,40. Break even point will be reached at a selling volume of 74.107,66 kg per year for the high scale, 28,.090,31 kg per year for the medium scale and 17.093,15 kg per year for the low scale. Suggested alternatives to develop the tapioka industry are as follows : (1) Enhancing the productivity of the distribution channels and raw materials suppliers in order to promote sales; (2) Improving the quality of capital, human resources and business processes; (3) Carefully inspecting the quality and product continuity; (4) Building a close relationship with the banking sector so that investment loan and working capital loan can be obtained.
