摘要:Colégio Nossa Senhora Aparecida, in the town of Nova Prata, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is an educational institution founded in February 24, 1937, linked to the Congregation of Imaculado Coração de Maria. Because of the values propagated by Catholic educational institutions, a group of people wished to have in the community a school run by nuns. Beginning with a historical-cultural analysis perspective – fostered by the interface with the sociological category “field”, adopted and inspired by the work of Pierre Bourdieu –, the study is conducted to identify emergency conditions, integration and operation of that school in its developmental function. The research is grounded in the analysis of written, oral and iconographic documents, which were designed as material and historical texts, carriers of messages, meanings and context to its particular purposes. Interpreted this way, the sources revealed that Colégio Nossa Senhora Aparecida established itself as an institution that reflected the interests and pre-established national models and, at the same time, brought a never seen concept of education, and particularly physical education, to the city of Nova Prata. Keywords: History of physical education, school, physical education.
