摘要：In this paper we examine various etymological proposals for the Galician verb devecer / debecer, and advance a new proposal deriving it from *DEBILESCERE, a verb formed from the adjective DEBILIS. This hypothesis explains the current Galician forms and meanings better than other theories according to phonetic, semantic and morphological criteria.
