摘要：This article describes a research on the study of the conjunction ‘mas’ (but), considering the conditions of production of a piece of spoken discourse, in which the speakers make efforts to guarantee their self image. This condition favors uses of ‘mas’ (but) that are not traditionally predicted, since the conjunction promotes acts of assertion, demonstrations, questions to clear doubts, requests, which are constantly being monitored by the interactants. Based on this, we try to conciliate the possibility of considering both the linguistic marks and the features of discursive conduction, in this case, in spoken discourse.
