摘要:The field of journalism has always beeninflected by technological disruptionsthat take place continually. Disruptionushered in by the digitalisation and convergenceof media has changed the waysjournalists perform their routine journalistictasks. Non-human actants likemobile phones, smart phones, messagingapps, and social media among othershave influenced journalistic practicesin the realm of converged media. Thisresearch paper attempts to explore howsmart phones, social media and otherconvergent media and related practicesalter or translate the journalistic networkof news production. To understand thephenomena, the researchers conductedin-depth interview with twelve journalistsfrom the Hindustan Times and HindustanDainik, Lucknow and Dainik Jagran,Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The audiorecordings of interviews were transcribedand coded as per the three stagesof thematic analysis using qualitativedata analysis software NVivo. Emergingliterature on convergence journalism andactor-network theory has been invokedfor analysis and discussion. The analysisshows that journalists from all threenewspapers are adept at dealing withconverged technologies and concomitantpractices. News technologies like WhatsApp,Facebook, Twitter, the contentmanagement software or central server(NewsWrap) and page-making softwarenamely QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesignhave become prominent non-humanactors performing the role of mediators. The attendant practices of these newstechnologies indicate substantial translationof the journalistic network in termsof how journalists do their work and howthe resources of the organisation and theknowledge produced are coordinated.
