摘要：Le présent article retrace l’histoire de la schistosomiase au Maroc et l’effort mené pour son élimination du pays. Depuis sa découverte en 1914 à Marrakech, la schistosomiase est demeurée durant des décennies un problème de santé publique au Maroc. Un programme national de lutte fut lancé en 1982 et a abouti à une maîtrise de la situation épidémiologique qui a encouragé le passage d’un programme de lutte à un processus d’élimination de la maladie engagé en 1994. Ce processus, dont l’objectif consistait à éliminer la transmission de la maladie à l’horizon 2004, a permis de neutraliser tous les foyers connus. Aujourd’hui, le défi à relever est la consolidation des acquis et la certification de l’élimination par l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé.

This paper outlines the history of schistosomiasis in Morocco and the efforts made to eliminate it from the country. Since it was first diagnosed in 1914 in Marrakesh, schistosomiasis remained for decades a public health problem in Morocco. A national control programme was launched in 1982 and it led to a considerable reduction in the incidence and morbidity associated with the disease. Consequently, the programme shifted from disease control to an elimination process launched in 1994. This process aimed to eliminate the disease transmission by the end of 2004 and has helped to clear all known foci. Today, the challenge is to maintain schistosomiasis elimination and to be certified schistosomiasis-free by the World Health Organization.
