This book is the result of the proceedings of a conference held at
Harvard University (U.S.A) in 1991. It consists of sixteen main
chapters, contributed by a total of seventeen authors. The overall and
admirable aim was to bring together the disciplines of plant
biodiversity, management and conservation in relation to women and
gender relations. Perhaps more specifically to bring knowledge f plant
science to women. The contributors came from a rich range of disciplines
including: geography, ethnobotany, development economics and women
studies, agronomy, plant breeding, anthropology and nutrition.
By-and-large the volume covers the following large areas:
- Gender relations, women's rights and plant management.
- Gendered plant knowledge in science and society.
- Plants, women's status and welfare.
- Gender, biodiversity loss and conservation.
- Women, the garden, the kitchen and conservation.
This volume has been recommended by the students studying
"Home gardening". Women and Plants must be in the shelves of
the library of every individual who cares about the future of our
planet.
