in Two Health Centers (Ahfad Health Center & Dar-Elsalam Jabal Awlea

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness and efficiency of
ANC services in the two health centers (Ahfad Health Center &
Dar-Elsalam Health Center).
In this study the ANC services in the two health centers were
investigated. The target groups were 200 pregnant women (100 pregnant
women from each health center plus the health providers and selected
staff from each health center).
Primary data were collected through a designed and pre-tested
questionnaire for pregnant women and checklist of questions for the
health providers.
The collected data from pregnant women was manually analyzed and
the results were presented in a form of tables of frequency and
percentage. The feedback from the health providers was also recorded.
The study revealed that the majority of pregnant women who
responded from the two health centers were within the age group of 19-34
years. This minimizes old and early age risks.
The attitude of the doctors and the technicians towards the
respondents was good and their availability in the health centers was
reasonable.
Laboratory investigations were conducted in a reasonable time and
seeing the doctor in the same day. Specialized physicians,
nutritionists, and psychologists were available in Dar-Elsalam Jabal
Awlea Center and those available were not involved in ANC. The standard
of cleanliness in the two health centers was good.
Follow up cards system was available and the cards were kept by the
pregnant women. Relevant recommendations were made. Those included
provision of nutritionists and psychologists in the two centers to
conduct health programs. This is in addition to the need for equipping
the ANC units with ultrasound facilities.
