2012. Ahfad University for Women. Assessment of awareness of community
pharmacists about contraindicated drugs for blood hypertension
This study aimed at assessment of awareness and knowledge of the
community pharmacists about drug contradicted for blood hypertension.
The study was conducted in Khartoum State. The target group included 152
pharmacists who were randomly selected and divided as follows: 90
pharmacists from Omdurman and 62 pharmacists from Khartoum North.
The primary data was collected through 2 prescriptions and was
distributed on the base of one prescription in one area.
1. Amilo 5mg and Antistine 4mg, and
2. Nidipine 20mg and Nilodol Extra 500mg.
The secondary data was collected from books, journals and internet
sources. Some of the important findings included:
In prescription one (Amilo 5mg + Antistine 4mg) only one of the
pharmacists referred the patients back to the doctor and 5 of the
pharmacists refused to dispense the drug.
In prescription two (Nidipine 20mg and Nilodol Extra 500mg) none of
the pharmacists referred the patients back of the doctor and only one of
the pharmacists refused to dispense the drug.
Accordingly, the Sudanese pharmacists awareness about drugs which
contraindicated for hypertension seem to be very poor and they have poor
knowledge in the communication skills.
It is therefore, recommended that the curricula of pharmacy schools
and faculties should include pharmaceutical care and communication
skills courses. Pharmacists should be exposed to frequent training
programs to update their pharmaceutical knowledge about drugs
contraindicated for hypertensive patients.
