摘要:This present article verifies how Brazilian society relates to mentally-ill patients, based on the perspective of a social-historical analysis of madness. The forms of power and control in their treatments were examined and considered. These are treatments imposed by the psychiatric knowledge of the physician in the psychiatric hospital or a new treatment model offered to mentally-ill patients in the so-called CAPs -the Psychosocial Service Centers. Some answers for understanding the specificities of mentally-ill patients care as well as for perceiving the relationships of power and control underlying their treatment were obtained through field research made in the Psychosocial Service Center of Londrina.
