摘要：On the characteristics of social movements two lines of theorizing have developed in Europe and the United States. In the literature on social movements in the United States the strategic nature of social movements is highlighted, as they attempt to achieve social change through the foray into the political arena through the development of a political strategy. The appeal of social movements arose initially because they were alternative ways of doing politics, ways that were outside of institutional channels but anyway seeking changes in the space of politics. In this paper I analyze the literatura on social movements and present a characterization of what are called “new social movements”.
