摘要:This paper presents the main conclusions of a research (PARD/UFPA/CNPq 2006) that analyzes the significant role of the media in the environmental boom recorded in the last years. The main goal was to verify how the printed media structured its environmental discourse, with special emphasis on deforestation and queimadas (forest burn), starting from studying its main information sources. What have we concluded is that the journalistic articles that are mainly factual and descriptive quote mainly governmental sources. From the 80s on, academic research institutions and NGOs became sources as well. Farmers and loggers were quoted as a second source during this period, sometimes as the villains, sometimes as the victims of Amazon deforestation and burnings. From the 90s on, the scientific and environmental sources had become consolidated as the journalistic discourse legitimated voices to talk about the Amazon.
