摘要:This paper aims at analyzing the news information on Mexico in four evening programs from the American television on years 1988, 1994, 2000, and 2006. The analysis evidences the American and global audience’s perception on the country as a result of the important role the American media plays in the setting of the international agenda. The work was performed based on the content analysis method and the samples coincide with political campaign periods celebrated during the last four federal elections. The selection of these dates is directly related with the critical arguments that have confirmed, since the 1970s, the information asymmetries regarding the underdeveloped countries, in quantitative and qualitative aspects, through the industrialized countries’ media. The results agree with the denouncement that since those years, the “non-aligned countries” were benefitted while the underdeveloped ones had a much reduced and negative coverage, making it clear that for the American TV news rating is the most attractive element.
