  • 摘要:It is acknowledged that the leaders that are perceived as charismatic by their followers are quite successful in establishing cohesion in organizations and increasing the performance and satisfaction levels of the employees. Thus, it is believed that when coaches are perceived as charismatic by their players, it might play a significant role in achieving the goals set by the teams. The current study examines the charismatic leadership perception of male and female handball players playing in the leagues of Turkish Handball Federation according to different variables. The sampling of the study consists of 242 handball players in the leagues of Turkish Handball Federation during 2012-2013 season. In order to obtain data regarding the charismatic leadership perception of the players for their coaches, “Charismatic Leadership Scale” developed by Çelik (2011) was administered. This scale consists of eight subscales and 35 items. For the purposes of data analysis, reliability tests (Cronbach Alpha), t-test, one-way variance analysis and factor analysis were applied. KMO value for the scale was found to be 0.895 and Barlett’s Sphericity test χ2= 4898,521 at p < 0.001. According to the results of Cronbach Alpha test, the values for subscales were between 0.762 and 0.910. The comparison made according to the variables “sex” and “education level” showed statistically meaningful differences in some subscales (p <0.05). One-way ANOVA test results revealed meaningful differences among the groups in some subscales for the variables “age”, “league level”, “the duration of working with the same coach” and “the duration of doing the same sports branch (p<0.05). According to research findings, the players with lower levels of educational background think that their coach trusts them very much, cares them a lot, takes risks for success and has good communication with them. These findings are consistent with autocratic leadership findings by Yılmaz (2008). The mean scores of the male players were found to be higher on the variable “unusual appearance”. The meaningful difference observed for the variable “sex” was consistent with those found by Çelik and Sünbül (2008), Kocatürk (2007). As for the variable “the duration of working with the same coach”, some meaningful differences were found for some subscales, which is in parallel with the findings of Çelik (2011).
