Data showing the expansion of higher education in the country, especially via private initiative, will be presented and how it affects these programs. In addition, there is a strong tendency for teacher education in Brazil: made by private for-profit institutions, called “university-enterprise”, in evening courses, and increasingly at distance. Finally, the paper argues the urgent need for some reversals in the current teacher education policy for this scenario to change radically in Brazil.
